Talbingo 3-year-old Kindergarten Inc. has been in operation for over 20 years. We were first registered as an incorporated association in July 1993. We are a self funded, not-for-profit, privately run kindergarten. It is run entirely by a volunteer committee made up of parents whose children are attending the current year.
Preschool services do not form part of the compulsory education system and are not free of charge. Families choose to send their child/children to 3-year-old Kindergarten and therefore, undertake to support the Kindergarten through the payment of fees. Talbingo 3-year-old Kindergarten Inc. receives no government funding or subsidy (including local council). As such we rely on fees and fundraising to pay for expenses.
As the Kindergarten is self-funded through the enrolment fees, parents are encouraged to share in any maintenance, social activities and fundraising activities. Parent assistance is vital in keeping the Kindergarten operational.
Over time, the demand for 3-year-old kindergarten programs has increased.
The centre started with one group of approximately 16 children, who attended for 2 1/2 hours a week. The Kindergarten has continued to grow over the years and has reached capacity at 110 children spread across five groups. Running from Monday to Friday, each group of 22 children is allocated one morning session and one afternoon session.
Talbingo 3-year-old Kindergarten Inc. prides itself on being one of the few standalone 3-year-old kindergartens that offers a dedicated 3- year-old Early Learning Program delivered by fully qualified Early Childhood Educators. Each session is run by a Lead educator and a co-educator with the help of volunteer parents.
Diploma of Teaching
(equivalent to the current Bachelor of Early Childhood Education)
Upon completing my degree in Early Childhood I began working full-time in four year old kindergartens. After having my family I returned to teaching and secured a part time position here at Talbingo, which then operated only one day a week. I supplemented this with extensive relief teaching work within the City Of Casey and the Shire of Cardinia four-year-old centres.
There has been a steady growth at Talbingo 3-year-old Kindergarten with the centre now operating every day. We have a dedicated staff that works closely with our children, families and committee to provide a welcoming and warm environment for all.
My love for three-years-olds just grows stronger each year. The age group is beautiful to work with – the children have such innocence about them. They are so trusting, respectful, funny, loving, curious, eager, questioning, persistent, clever, purposeful and engaging.
I feel privileged to hold a special role in their lives and hope when our children leave Talbingo they take with them a love of learning that has helped to form the foundation of their educational journey.
Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (currently completing Bachelor of Early Childhood Education)
My name is Xavier and I am one of the lead teachers here at Talbingo 3yo Kindergarten. I studied and completed my diploma in 'Early Childhood Education care' in 2015 and found a passion to teach in early childhood. I am currently studying my Bachelor of Education in early Childhood and Primary and love all the new knowledge that I am learning.
I enjoy helping children in their learning journey and am in awe and excited when I witness their progress.
The social and emotional wellbeing of a child is fundamental to their ability to be able to learn, so I believe in creating strong relationships so that they feel safe and secure in their learning environment. Music is an important art form of expression, so I aim to teach children action songs that help with their fine and gross motor skills and enhance their memory.
I believe that teaching children diversity and culture helps them to learn about the world around them and will assist them in being accepting and respectful to different abilities and cultures.
Learning about sustainability and our environment will help the children to develop an understanding of our responsibility to the planet and what actions need to be taken to preserve our environment.
Incorporating The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) in my planning and programming, I aim to create play based learning experiences that helps develop literacy and numeracy skills that is engaging and builds skills for life.
Diploma of Community Services
My journey began with Talbingo when my eldest daughter attended 3 year old kindergarten in 2013 and my youngest in 2015. I spent a lot of time being involved as a parent helper and on occasions a relief worker.
I’ve always had a strong connection with children completing my Diploma of Community Services (Childcare) in 1998. Over the past 20 years I have worked in the childcare field, as a nanny and embarked on my own journey as a parent of my two beautiful daughters.
In 2017 I began working as a Co-Educator to Moira at Talbingo one day a week. At the beginning of 2018 I was given the opportunity to work 3 days a week as a Co-Educator. I'm honoured to be working along side an amazing educator that also nurtured my own children.
I thoroughly enjoy working with young children. Every group and child is unique in their personalities to their connections with their friends and educators. Talbingo has always been more than just a kinder to our family, it's been like a home, building a culture and reputation that we all love.
Certificate 3 in Children's Services
I was introduced to Talbingo 3-Year-Old Kindergarten in 2015 when my oldest daughter started in the Koala group, and continued through to 2018 when my youngest daughter attended in the Wombats group. During this time, I was part of the committee in various roles, which was a rewarding experience and gave me a unique insight into the kindergarten.
I have come from a Long Day Care setting, where I spent the majority of my time with the 0-2 year old age group. I am excited to be joining the 3 year old age group, as it is such a fun and busy time in your child's development. It is a privilege to see the joy and pride on the children's faces when they learn something new, master a difficult skill, or as they share a fun experience with their peers.
I look forward to sharing these experiences with you and your child across the year.
